Your wallet or your smartphone - which would you rather lose?

If you had to choose one, would you rather lose your wallet or your smartphone?

At Insure My Smartphone we know the answer would be neither, but a recent YouGov report found that nearly half of all younger, smartphone owners would rather lose their wallet than their smartphone!

"What would happen if you lost your smartphone that was also your ‘Mobile Wallet’?"

According to the survey by YouGov, three in ten smartphone owners in the UK…30 per cent…said they thought it would be worse to lose their smartphone than their wallet, according to a survey by YouGov.

The proportion of survey respondents who would rather hang on to their smartphone increased significantly for younger smartphone owners, with 42 per cent of 16 to 24 year olds saying it would be worse to lose their smartphone than their wallet, and 34 per cent of 25 to 34 year olds caring less about their wallet than their smartphone.

Of those aged over 55, only 14 per cent say it would be worse to lose their smartphone, with 85 per cent saying they would rather hang on to their wallet.

Overall, men were slightly more worried about losing their smartphone than their wallet, with 32 per cent saying losing their smartphone would be worse compared to 28 per cent of women.

The survey was commissioned by outsourcing firm Firstsource Solutions. Firstsource Telecom and Media division executive vice president Santanu Nadi stated: “The fact that so many people would rather lose their wallet than their smartphone shows how indispensable these devices have become to the kind of lives we now lead."

“This information will be useful for mobile phone service providers who need to provide round the clock customer service and technical support for their ‘power users’. With half the people surveyed yet to switch over to a smartphone, their importance is only likely to increase in years to come.”

As mobile operators look to use NFC enabled smartphones as a possible replacement for the traditional wallet, having smartphone mobile phone insurance will be more important than ever before.
